Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sounds great JBL doesn't let down I bought a pair of the studio 290s about a month ago. At first i thought that the 200 dollars off the regular price that they were just not very good on sound quality. I was wrong.... these thing are just like you would expect from JBL. I have these along with the Audio 180s for my back channel on my surround sound..... the sound from both sets is like being in the show or at a concert. These will make the neighbors jealous. If you can afford these get them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AWESOME STUDIO 290 SPEAKERS Since first heard my JBL DECADE 36 3 WAY SPEAKERS some 40 years ago I have had JBL on my mind and these Studio 290's along with my Studio 590's are just as awesome if more so than my Decade 36's

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Flot design og super lyd.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Yeah Baby! I just bought these a few months ago. I love them. The neighbors are jealous. The sound coming from out of these will blow your mind!! They literally can handle anything you throw into them. The more you play them the more you don't want to turn them off!! Ya gotta love JBL !!

Aside from the larger 8" transducers would the Studio 290 offer any real sonic advantages over the Studio 190? They both seem to share similar elements differing in transducer size for the 290 and midrange sub enclosure for the 190. Thanks!

my listening room is 9X16X18. would the Studio 290's be too big? the wall behind my head is only 3' high and open to the kitchen.

Asked by: Gennaro
The Studio 290's should be able to fill the room quite nicely provided that the receiver you have them connected to would have enough to drive the speakers accordingly.

Hi, I have a vintage Mcintosh MA-230 integrated tube amp. Would these speakers pair well with this amp? I only listen to vinyl records on this amp and that is what I would be using these speakers for. Thanks, Jimmy

Asked by: Jimmy N
Please ee my answer to honeyjean's questiosn below. With a rated power output of 30 watts your MA 230 integrated amp will work very well with these speakers. As it's a tube amplifier it should really make the JBL's sing very smoothly. Just don't crank up the volume too much and you'll be in great shape.

Will the JBL Studio 290 speakers work with a McIntosh 1700? I'm afraid I'll blow out either the Mac or the JBL Studio 290 speakrs.

Asked by: honeyjean
I am very familiar With the MAC 1700 reciever, having sold McIntosh audio equipment for a local audio retailer from 1971-1980. The 1700 is an excellent choice for these JBL's. They are fairly efficient, and the power rating is very much within the MAC 1700's capabilities. McIntosh gear is legendary for robust poerr supplied, military grade components, and superior build quality. As I remember it's rated at 40 watts per channel from 20-20,000 hz @ .5(POINT five)% distortion. McIntosh did annual amplifier clinics at their dealers, and Mac owners could have the performance of their gear checked(power output, harmonic distortion level, noise and hum, etc)l.McIntosh amps and preamps never failed to EXCEED their power ratings and perform at fractions of their maximum distortion ratings. The MAC 1700's that were tested at our clinics never produced less than 45 watts per channel before clipping, again at distortion levels below .5 percent. I saw a couple test out at 50 watts per channel.I'm sorry for this very long answer yo your question, but I thought you'd like to know what a fantastic receiver you have. It's gonna make your new JBL's sing, my friend!

Can you connect an aux cord to it?

Asked by: samlauderdale1
Thanks for reaching out. Unfortunately, no. The JBL Studio 290 can only be connected to an amplifier/receiver using speaker wires/cables. The JBL Studio 590's are awesome and the only competitor to SVS Ultra Towers in the $2,000 a pair range. But, then there's these JBL Studio 290's. Question is : "Does the JBL Studio 290 compete with the JBL 590's and if so why pay more for the 590?"

Asked by: HTFan
The main difference is the number and type of speakers inside. The 290 has two(2) 8" woofers, one(1) 4" mid-range and a 1" tweeter while the 590 has higher quality 8" woofers and a 1" horn loaded tweeter allowing it to accept up to 250W, a higher rating than the 290. The Studio 590 will definitely deliver an extraordinarily lifelike performance.

JBL Studio 290 vs JBL Studio 590? Which is best for 50% Home Theater 50% Music in a complete 7.1 surround system? ~ peace

Asked by: HTFan
Thank you for showing interest in our products. The JBL STUDIO 290 and JBL STUDIO 590 are both ideal for music and movie systems. It's just that the STUDIO 590 together with the rest of  Studio 5 Series speakers, were acoustically designed by renowned JBL chief engineer Greg Timbers. The loudspeaker has a combination of a 25mm (1") HF compression driver and Bi-Radial® horn with dual 200mm (8") cast-frame Symmetrical Field Geometry (SFG) woofers in order to deliver powerful and accurate or lifelike performance. The materials used in the STUDIO 590 was able to compensate for not having a specific driver for midrange that the STUDIO 290 has.

Match well with Denon AVR-S930H receiver? 930H specs are (8 ohm, 20 Hz-20 kHz, 0.08% 2ch Drive, 90W); (6 ohm, 1 kHz, 0.7% 2ch Drive, 125W); (6 ohm, 1 kHz, 10% 1ch Drive, 185W). Don't want one to over or under power the other if it creates bad sound.

Asked by: JiQ55
Hi! Thank you for your inquiry. Looking at the specs you have provided, there should be no issues using the Studio 290.
